Warbirds 2026 a Great Success at KAMS Event Report
Warbirds 2026 was another highly successful event for KAMS, with excellent weather, a strong pilot turnout and a very good public attendance combining to make it a memorable day.
This year’s event marked the 27th running of Warbirds at KAMS and was held during a very special year for the club, as KAMS also celebrates 39 years of owning its Oldbury airfield.

Around 150 spectators attended, enjoying perfect flying conditions with a light breeze across the field, which was presented in superb condition thanks to the efforts of Stuart Hamilton and Ross Cox.
This year’s event marked the 27th running of Warbirds at KAMS, a remarkable milestone in itself. It also came as the club celebrates 39 years of owning its Oldbury airfield, reflecting the long-term commitment and dedication of KAMS members.
More than 30 pilots took part, many flying two or more models, which kept the program moving and the flightline active throughout the day. The event also drew welcome support from visiting flyers from WAEF, Wanneroo, WARMS, Whitfords and WAMASC, highlighting the strong camaraderie within the WA modelling community.
Spectators were treated to plenty of great flying, a wide range of impressive models and, thankfully, not too much carnage. Among the standout moments were Wayne Saul flying his superb Mustang in tribute to past KAMS member Brian Holding, who flew the full-size original in the Korean War. Brian was remembered with great respect.
Vince Belshaw also impressed with his recently completed Hawker Seafury in Australian naval livery, while KAMS stalwarts Ian Johnson and Greg McLure added to the display, with Greg’s Anson drawing plenty of attention.
The midday break featured a stunning aerobatic display by Bob Grimstead in his full-size Fournier RF 4D, while two scale attack helicopters flown by members of the Perth RC Heli Club added further variety and spectacle.
Off the flightline, the canteen volunteers remained busy all day, with Pete, Beryl, Bernie, Pauline, Don and Olivier making sure no one went hungry. Support from the MAAA, sponsors Ace RC Models and Ephil Australia, along with generously donated silent auction items from Nigel, Clive and Goochie, also contributed to the day’s success.
Recent upgrades to the KAMS website, including live airfield weather integration, further highlight the club’s ongoing efforts to improve communication and accessibility for members and visitors alike.
Warbirds 2026 was a fine showcase of scale modelling, flying skill and club spirit, and a credit to everyone who helped make the day such a success.
